It seems like every year Christmas comes earlier and earlier — and while I’m not opposed, sometimes I feel like it takes some of the magic out of the holiday. I’m probably the only person in blog land who thinks this (based on the numerous I wish Christmas was year-round posts), but it’s true.
So here are five things we are NOT doing this Christmas.
//1.// We are not going overboard on Christmas gifts for Sheffield. For multiple reasons – A. He doesn’t really need anything – that kid has a ton of toys and a ton of clothes b. He won’t really remember it (I went crazy last year for toys that he was no longer interested in in about five months) and C. He has grandparents that are no doubt going to spoil him rotten.
//2.// We are not going to outsource Christmas dinner. Half of the Christmas fun is baking and cooking with family, and we are going to soak up all of that with my mom and step-dad this year.
//3.// We are not going to sweat the small stuff. Our Christmas tree is on top of our dining room table – it looks ridiculous, but inquiring toddler hands can’t get it. I’m not going to sweat that I don’t know how to wrap a present — they have gift bags for the crazy things I know I can’t wrap, and if you get a poorly wrapped gift, call it my calling card.
//4.// I am not going to bake 1,000,000 cookies. I may bake 2,000, but going to stay away from making every single cookie from the December Southern Living.
//5.// We are not going to bed in regular old pajamas — I have always wanted to start the tradition of getting new Christmas PJs on Christmas Eve, so I think this year is the year!!
And a few things we will be doing…
Drinking all the hot chocolate spiked with Peppermint Schnapps / Driving through every neighborhood to see the Christmas lights / Donating to Toys for Tots / Eating every single bite of cheese ball / Watching all the holiday movies multiple times / Getting all the baby snuggles / And while I may not be baking the million cookies, I definitely will be eating them!!
