In past years, B and I have always taken my actual birthday-day off. Since it’s, you know, in January and always freezing cold, there’s not a lot to do. So B tries to make it as special as he can – and he always outdoes himself. I am truly a spoiled spoiled lady.
First up for breakfast was Trattoria Centrale. I got their frittata of the day (bacon, onions and red pepper – delicious!), and B got their winter hash, which had collard greens and looked so yummy. No pictures, because I was starving and scarfed it down.
After breakfast we headed over to Octane in Uptown for a couple lattes. B got the vanilla, and I got the caramel, and B’s was definitely the better of the two. Lesson learned.
Once we were nice and warmed up, we headed over to the Birmingham Museum of Art. In all the time we’ve lived here, we have never been. The highlight for me was getting to see a Salvador Dali sculpture – he is my absolute favorite artist of all time, so it was a treat to see one of his works hanging out in Birmingham.
After we got some culture, B took me up to Trussville to go to Parrish Seafood and Oyster House for some beers and a dozen raw oysters. They have some of the best oysters in the entire of Birmingham, and one of the best shuckers ever. They were perfect.
Then we headed over to Sparetime in Trussville for some bowling and Laser Tag. B and I were the only ones in the laser tag arena, and we got a pretty decent 10 minute workout by running around in there trying to find each other. He beat me 3 out of 4 of the games, but it was still a freakin blast.
Then for our last stop as has become tradition on my birthday – we headed over to Hop City! We had a few beers, ordered some tacos and fries from Cantina!, and went to pick up boogs from daycare. When we had gotten home, one of my presents, a Mr. Bingle, had arrived, so Sheffield and I took a selfie with him.
B ended the night by going to get my favorite sushi rolls. What did I tell you? Spoiled or what? It was honestly one of the most fun birthdays that I can remember, and I’m so grateful that B took the time to plan out all of our activities. Here’s to hoping that 34 is just as fun as 33!
