It’s Friday, so that’s good, but this week has tried me like no other has in a long time. I just keep realizing that I am still so far behind on blog posts, laundry, answering texts, cleaning the car, reading, bathing the dog…and everything I guess. Adding in my almost losing it yesterday morning when Sheffield said, “I want to stay with mama” when I dropped him off at day care, and it just ended up being one shitty week.
While I’m not always happy with my job, my boss said something yesterday that made me incredibly thankful for where I work: For those not familiar with logistics or trucking companies, the last quarter of the year is usually super busy, especially for those retail companies that we haul for, and it’s usually a super stressful time. The VP of my division said:
“I know a lot of you have small children. Do NOT let this job get to you. This job is not the most important thing at the end of the day.”
I am very lucky to work for a company that values family over everything else – and very thankful that they are aware of how stressful this job can be, but at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter. It just doesn’t. So, here are a few things that have happened over the last week or so that don’t pertain to work at all:
Last Thursday, we went to the Dia de Los Muertos festival down in Pepper Place. B and I try super hard to introduce boogs to new things and new cultures, and even though he’s only two, we believe that to be very important. He loved dancing to the music and coloring a sugar skull. We loved looking around at all the shrines.
Last weekend we went to a car show at Brookwood Mall. It was so fun hearing Sheffield say “that’s neat!” and tell us what colors all of the cars were.
My deathly afraid of leaves child for some reason loves to rake them and jump in a pile. Don’t put a leaf anywhere near him, but if they’re in giant heaps? Let’s hop right in.
I’m going to take more time this season to enjoy the time I have and use it for good with my husband and kiddo – I will take what my boss said to heart, and make sure they, and only they, are my priority this holiday season.
I hope y’all have a great weekend.
