A couple weekends ago, B and I had a Birmingham day. We got up early, went for a walk around downtown and got baby bump snapshots in some of our favorite Birmingham places. After our walk, we decided that we’d worked out enough to grab some quick breakfast.
Nadine had told me about this place called The Abbey in Avondale. It was a cute little coffee shop that we knew had some type of pastries, breakfast sandwiches, what have you. It was so nice there for a Saturday. It wasn’t packed, at all, the girls behind the counter were super sweet, and their menu looked great. B got a Nutella Frosty (you read that right), and a bagel with bacon jam (again, you read that right). The bacon jam was incredible. I mean, just delicious. I was boring and got a chai latte and a cranberry/blueberry muffin. Not to take away from how delicious all the food was. They also have a Chaisicle drink which will be my next beverage of choice when we go back. They also have soups and sandwiches for lunch as well.
Then later that afternoon I had promised B a treat for being so sweet to me and dealing with my hormonal teary-eyed self, so we tried out Magic City Sweet Ice — an Italian ice joint over in Homewood. I absolutely love Italian ice, and B had never had it so he was really happy with it. We both got mediums, but probably could have split one. He got the Island one, and I got the Captain America which tasted exactly like a bomb pop. It was definitely perfect to beat the heat.
I love getting to try out new places — it seems they’re popping up all over the place lately around these parts!
