A couple weeks ago, my sister and I went to take a sushi-making class at Cahaba Brewing – put on by Birmingham Sushi Classes. I had bought the tickets for my sister’s birthday – because experiences over things always.
The class was on a Monday at 6:30pm, so we got ourselves a couple beers and went into Cahaba Brewing’s little side room. The instructor had everything all set up, and even had out a little roll for us to eat when we got in there- it was so good!
We had no idea what to expect – and were pleasantly surprised that half of the class is an actual lecture with instructions on how to get the perfect rice, how to look for good fish, how to make all the sauces and where to find everything around Birmingham that you’ll need to make your own sushi. I was so glad that she actually took the time to tell us all of this. It was so interesting, and I feel that I really could make a basic roll at home now. My sister and I even talked about having an at-home date night with our guys to make sushi! Hopefully we’ll get around to that – because it’d be really fun!
After a little intermission, we got into the sushi making! She made it so easy to follow, and it was so fun to make our own rolls! After Kelly cut them, we got to go over to “sauce city” and put whatever sauces on them we wanted.
It was such a good experience – and I really recommend it to anyone. There was everyone there ranging from couples, a mom and son, and groups of friends. It was so much fun. She travels around the Southeast, so check out her website and sign up!
