Tuesday was Mardi Gras, and B and I celebrated the best way we know how – we took the day off and ate and drank whatever we wanted.
We started the day out having breakfast at Another Broken Egg in Mountain Brook. We got Bloody’s and mimosas and enjoyed crab cakes, fried green tomatoes and a delicious crawfish and shrimp omelette.
After that, we headed to Top Golf to hit a few balls. We had a few Abitas, and Bennett helped me change up my grip, and I actually started hitting the ball straight and into the targets. B kicked my ass all the rounds we played, but it was so much fun.
Then for lunch, we headed over to the only place we know to have an original po’boy – Rougaroux. We got a few cocktails, a fried shrimp po’boy and some boudin. After lunch, we hopped over to Naked Art Gallery, and some really fun greenery place that was right next to it.
Since we need to have oysters on Mardi Gras, we went to 5 points public oyster house for a dozen oysters and cheese curds. Yes, we were incredibly full by then, but like it’s Mardi Gras, so do what you wanna.
We then went to pick up Sheffield and headed over to Avondale Brewery for crawfish and shrimp and some brews. Sheffield loved his strawberry filled king cake, and there were a bunch of older kids who played with him, teaching him how to catch and throw, and it was so sweet. Avondale is one of our favorites since they are so family friendly. Plus the shrimp and crawfish were amazing.
And to round out Mardi Gras, we came home (didn’t eat dinner), watched some PJ Masks, ate M&Ms in bed and called it a night.
We’re hoping to get to take Sheffield down to NOLA for Mardi Gras next year – I can’t wait to see if he loves it as much as we do!
We are heading to McWane this weekend to celebrate some big machines!! I hope you all have a great weekend!
