So, I’m finally getting around to posting this. Only about two week too late, so that’s not too bad.
Over New Years, my mom and step-dad came down to my aunt’s house in Atlanta, and we drove over there and got to spend some time with them. It was amazing. There was food and booze galore, and of course, getting to spend time with family. Since having Sheffield, I’ve realized just how important being around family is. He needs those people in his life to love on him, and to keep him grounded. If you knew my aunts, you would definitely understand what I mean by that. As in, no shame in calling a 9 year old kid a loser to his face. In the most loving way possible of course.
On the way to Atlanta, we got stuck in traffic. This is how Sheffield felt about it.
Then when we got there, we finally got to chill with our cousins.
A shot of everyone watching New Year’s Eve football.
And the most adorable girl and her Mickey Mouse.
After that, B and I went to stay at my cousin’s house. B and I schooled said 9 year old in some Mortal Kombat and called it a night. The next day I felt horrible. I had not had that much to drink in a REALLY long time — OH! My parents watched the baby that night at my aunt’s house. We’re not awful people – just parents that got relieved of baby duty for a night. Anyway, felt like garbage, but went back over to my aunts house for some more football and food. They had the traditional pork and sauerkraut and for the southerners, hoppin john. I, of course, didn’t eat any of this, because I am weak and still felt like crap — a bit of cocktail flu with an actual cold coming on.
These are the aunts and my mom playing with the baby.
And said 9 year old holding the baby.
Everybody had to get their baby fix on that weekend, so we were relieved of baby duty pretty much the whole time we were there – which is nice when you live in Alabama with zero family nearby, and you’re too scared to leave baby with anyone that’s not blood related.
Then on Saturday on our way out, I got to meet up with two of my favorite high school people – I guess I should stop calling them my favorite high school people. They are my oldest friends in the world, and I love them dearly. And Rachel came, too. Rachel and Brett got to meet the babe for the first time, and Robin got to get her baby fix, too.
All in all, it was a super great way to ring in the New Year — spending it with family and old friends. I couldn’t think of a better way to do it.
