One of my favorite things to do in this city is to eat. New places are popping up every where! Here are a few places that we’ve tried.
BACK FORTY BREWERY
what we ate: Chicken sausages with slaw, fried chicken sandwich and fries. Of course we had some brews to go with it. The hefe was the most delicious of the three, although the white IPA was delicious in its own right. And they have a cheeseburger and Mexican street corn and a lemon icebox pie that I really want to go back and try.
what we thought: the space was really nice, and it was really big inside. They also have a huge outdoor space with picnic tables and chairs and tables that would make it perfect to bring the family to. The people there were super nice and attentive, and of course their beers were delicious. I definitely can’t wait to go back and try everything.
BIG BAD BREAKFAST
what we ate: biscuits and sausage gravy and the breakfast sandwich and a side of hash browns. Plus a mimosa and a screwdriver, because why the hell not. The gravy was so good, and the biscuit was so good. We ate at the Homewood location, and our service was great. I only wish I would have been hungrier so I could have eaten way more.
what we thought: Get there super early or you will be waiting. We got there around 8 in the morning, and there was a line out the door when we left. It was delicious, and we’ll definitely be back for more breakfast.
what we ate: B and I shared the crab bruschetta (which I could eat every single day of my life and not be mad about it) to start with. I got the pasta carbonara, which was topped with an egg and had pancetta, arugula and parmesan. The noodles were so amazing, and if I could eat that every day too, that’d be good. B got a prosciutto pizza, but ate it before I could take a pic. From what I heard, it was also pretty delicious.
what we thought: Fero is nestled into the Pizitz attached to the food hall. When we went, it was super empty (we made a reservation regardless), and the atmosphere was nice. The place was a bit smaller, so it wasn’t noisy at all. Our server was attentive, and made sure we had drinks and were happy with everything. We will definitely be back – even if it is just to have 5 orders of crab bread.
KALE ME CRAZY
what we ate: chicken pesto wrap and the hummus. Both were fresh and delicious.
what I thought; It’s a really good concept for when you want something fresh and healthy. However, it was a bit pricey for what it was. I paid almost $20 for the above meal you see. It was really good – the hummus was some of the best I’ve had (I ate it with a spoon), but I could also get the same meal somewhere else for way less.
So there ya have it!! A few of the new-ish restaurants we’ve tried around Birmingham – there are a few more I’m looking to try, and I can’t wait to stuff my face!
