The Marriage Pact – Michelle Richmond // I really enjoyed this book. It was about “The Pact” where they strive to keep the sacrament of marriage alive by any means necessary. It’s culty and definitely keeps you into it. The book is written from the husband’s perspective, which I thought was interesting, and also the chapters were super short, which kept the story moving. If culty, suspense-y type books are your thing, you’ll enjoy this one.
My Absolute Darling – Gabriel Tallent // This book is completely fucked up – in the best way possible. It’s very reminiscent of All the Ugly and Wonderful Things, with completely uncomfortable topics (incest, abuse, etc), but features a strong adolescent girl. I did find it very hard to read at parts, but again, like I said about All the Ugly and Wonderful Things, you’d be crazy to think these sorts of things don’t happen. Despite it being difficult to get through, I enjoyed it, and it was really well written.
The Marriage Lie – Kimberly Belle // Clearly I’m all about marriage and family and crap this month. A husband is supposed to be on a flight to Orlando, but then all of a sudden dies in an airplane crash. This one just fell a little short for me – I liked trying to guess what was going to happen, but it was just blah. The very last sentence was great, though.
Maybe in Another Life – Taylor Jenkins Reid // I didn’t like this one as much as the other two of hers I read, but it had a really interesting premise by showing us the two different paths one decision could make in your life. I know I always have those moments where I was like, I wish I would have done x instead of y, but I never really think of the rabbit hole once choice could have opened over the other. Definitely a quick fun read.
