This was a super hectic weekend. There wasn’t a dull moment in our household – or a quiet one for that matter. Or, scratch that – there was when boogs was napping.
I left work early – but before being done, met up with Nadine for some Babalu tacos. I didn’t take a picture, because I have a thousand pictures of Babalu tacos. Their shrimp taco and pork belly taco are my absolute favorites. After running around trying to get things ready for when everyone came, I hit up OTF (which I rarely do on a Friday, but was glad I did – it allowed me to finish my four days of Mayhem), and then B and I got some sushi for dinner. We called it an early night, and headed off to bed.
Poppa and G’ma came over pretty early to hang out. We hit up Holler N Dash for biscuits (I always get the chicken, set, go – it’s so good), and then went over to Pepper Place Market. We got some fresh strawberries and some pralines from Birmingham Candy Company. Those pralines are the real deal y’all, and I actually prefer them over ones from NOLA. After the market, we headed over to Vulcan. We hadn’t been in awhile, and it was fun to see boogs run around. Also got some really great pictures of him and my dad.
When we got home – Sheff went down for naps, and the adults drank some beverages and waited on my sister to get to Birmingham! Once she got there, everyone unloaded her stuff at the house, and then went and took the truck to her storage place to get everything out and return the truck. My work husband came over to help, and stayed to have pizza and beers with us. It was super fun to have everyone together on the back porch just chatting.
It was actually supposed to rain all day (rain all weekend, actually), but it didn’t, and we were really lucky to get some great weather. In the morning, we just kind of slugged it out on the couch watching some shows. After OTF, I made a brunch of apple fritter crumble, scrambled eggs, and some fresh fruit. Since it was so nice out, most of us got into our swimsuits and dipped in the pool. I even got in a pretty sweet nap, and once Sheffield woke up, he joined us.
We hung around all day outside, drinking summer beer and chatting. B made up some amazing burgers for dinner, and I promptly passed out about five minutes after eating, while everyone watched Fahrenheit 451 on HBO. I loved the book, but the consensus was the movie wasn’t that great. I have put myself on the wait list at the library for it, so it can jog my memory – the last time I read that book was some time in high school!
I started the day bright and early with a 6:15 OTF. It was one of my favorite workouts so far, and I am still feeling Coach Jessie’s core blast from yesterday. After everyone was dressed and ready, my dad treated us to Metro Diner for some breakfast. Sheffield was incredibly well-behaved (hallelujah and a well-deserved change from the rest of the weekend), and he actually ate all of his pancakes. On a side note: Moms of kids with almost 3 year olds – please reassure me that this jerkiness is just a phase!!
After breakfast, we slugged it out some more – had some Bloody’s, and spent a good bit of time outside, since again, we got lucky and no rain until the afternoon. Sheff and Poppa read a bunch of books, we had smoked pork butt, potato salad, coleslaw and B made homemade strawberry ice cream, which we put over Angel food cake. It was so good.
It was so great to have everyone over, and of course to have my sister now living with us. I know Sheffield loves having her here, and so do we. I’m excited to see what the next chapter holds for her down here in Alabama.
I hope you all had a great weekend!
