I was so excited to get out of work on Friday – you have no idea. The last three weeks at that place had done me in – and I couldn’t wait to just turn it all off, reconnect with my life outside of work. We got down into Miramar Beach around 8 Friday night – my dad had gotten us our shrimpsgiving, we let Sheffield stay up a little later to hang out with Grandma and Poppa, and then we ended the night with beverages on the patio.
Saturday I got up bright and early and got a good 6.2 mile run in. It was absolutely perfect running weather, and although it was a really slow run, it was good to get out there and do it. I got back – boogs and I had some breakfast, and immediately headed down to the beach. He wanted to go for a walk, so we walked up and down the beach. He was so sweet and wanted to hold my hand the entire time – I will definitely miss those moments when he gets a little older. After a little while, my step-brother, his wife and their twins came down to meet us at the beach! It was so awesome to see Sheffield interacting with them – they are the same age, and they had a blast! After lunch and naps, they all came back over to the condo for some more time hanging out and wearing glow bracelets.
Sunday was a windy and dreary day – so we didn’t head down to the beach at all. B, boogs, and I all went to the Gulfarium in Fort Walton Beach – it was so much fun! Sheffield got to see a dolphin show, lots of alligators, sea lions and even some tropical birds! It was mostly outside, so it was nice to be able to just let him run around and have fun. After that, we went over to Baytowne Wharf so Sheff could run out his energy on their huge playground before all the rain came in. He played for about an hour or so, and then we had Acme Oyster House for lunch – a dozen oysters and half a po’boy hit the spot. We spent the rest of the day playing inside and ordered in some Mellow Mushroom for dinner. We played a board game and some Spades, and had lots of beverages.
Monday was our best beach day! The sun was out and it was warm enough to actually take my cover-up off! The twins and Sheffield had lots of fun with bubbles, playing in the sand and flying a kite! It really was so great getting to see them getting along and actually playing with each other. We’re going to get some FaceTime dates set up so they can all see each other regularly. After lunch and naps, we headed back down to the beach and to the pool for some more fun. Later that night, step-bro, his wife, B and I all went to Rum Runners at Baytowne Wharf – had a few delicious drinks (one was called a white gummy bear – and that’s exactly what it tasted like!), and listened to dueling pianos. It was so nice getting to hang out with Isaac again, and to get to know his wife better.
Right before we left, we gathered up Poppa and Grandma and took one last walk on the beach. This was one of the sweetest pictures I took the whole weekend. I love getting to watch him with family, and am so thankful for the time we got with them.
This recharge was something that I really needed- with the exception of thirty minutes or so Monday morning, I didn’t do anything work related. I ignored all the work emails pouring in, and tried to remain focused on what was going on around me. I hope that Sheffield has built a good foundation for a good relationship with his cousins, and that they end up being great friends.
I hope you guys had a great weekend as well- back to the grind tomorrow!
