I had one thing I wanted to accomplish this weekend and that was to get my toenails painted for our beach trip next weekend. I waffled back on forth on actually going to pay someone to do it, but I ended up purchasing Watermelon from Essie and doing it myself. I figure that is money well saved for my upcoming sister trip to San Fran – anyway it did end up getting accomplished, so weekend equals successful.
Friday night, B and I had some Makarios take-out and just chilled on the couch. If you live in Bham and have never had their hummus, you are missing out. It is some of the best I’ve ever had, and their pita bread is just so delicious. Their gyro? Also one of the best in Birmingham. I have no pictures, because I gobbled that shit up. So good.
Saturday, I woke up and went to OTF as per usual. After that, I headed over to Publix to get some baking stuff for the weekend. Strong storms and rain were forecast for all day, so I wanted to be sure to have some things to keep boogs occupied. When I got home, we made some cream cheese Danishes for breakfast, and I have to admit, they were pretty delicious! After breakfast ,we went out pajama shopping for Sheff. He has pretty much grown out of most of the ones he owns, so we really needed to get him a few pairs to hold him over. After that we decided to head to Hop City for a beer or two and just to hang out. They have completely changed the inside to add more seating, and since it was so early, it really wasn’t that crowded at all. Sheff drank a root beer and read his book, while B and I tried a few new ones they had.
On Friday, I told B that I wanted to make a giant fort on Saturday for boogs since the weather was supposed to be so horrible, so while he was down for nap, B and I got to work. We blew up the air mattress, brought in some chairs to hold the sheet over it, and even strung some lights over top of it ($3 flamingo lights from the dollar spot at Target). We threw all the pillows we could find in there! It was so cozy!
When he woke up, we popped some popcorn and had a fun viewing of Coco. I know it’s not a popular mom thing right now to admit to letting your kid watch TV, but that is all we did Saturday afternoon. He absolutely loved the music in Coco, and I can’t get enough of that movie. If you haven’t seen it, definitely watch it – it’s even really good for adults.
B and I ended the night with Braided Pizza (recipe to come!), some red wine and some Sopranos. In the fort. It really was pretty comfy in there!
Sunday we had our breakfast, and Sheff and I went to Target to give B some alone time. We went up and down every aisle, and discovered the all pink Starburst bag. My sister had told me this existed, but I had yet to see it. I think I’m definitely going to go back and get a bag for our San Fran trip. After Target, we came home and had TV free Sunday morning -which is also becoming sort of a ritual. We turn on WWOZ (NOLA radio station), and boogs just plays with his toys. We made some sprinkle cookies, did a fun suncatcher craft kit (also from the Target dollar spot), and just kind of hung around the rest of the day. It was a good weekend for getting stuff done – I cleaned out an entire garbage bag of crap from under my bathroom sink, and tackled my t-shirt and workout drawers. We did every ounce of laundry, and cleaned out the refrigerator and freezer.
All in all, it was a pretty nice, relaxing weekend. And yes, the fort is still up in the living room.
