If you’ve been around here for a minute, you know that I am a New Orleans loving fool, so when B said that’s what he wanted to do for his birthday, that’s what we did. We only went for a night (because it really is hard to leave that cute little guy!), but it was so fun.
We drove down to New Orleans EARLY Saturday morning to be able to get the most out our day. Once we got there, we went to our favorite little cookbook store in the world, Kitchen Witch. I found a Junior League Southeastern cookbook from 1977. I was so excited! There are sooooo many good recipes in that book that I can’t wait to try, and maybe share here!
Anyway, after that it was off to lunch at the best damn fried chicken place in America — no joke, it seriously won that title – Willie Mae’s in the Treme. Plus their gravy on their mashed potatoes was ummmm, probably the best thing I’ve ever put in my mouth.
From there we went to a cute little store, where presents were bought for Sheffield – then on to get a beverage!! From there we went to Hansen’s for a sno-ball ( SO GOOD!), then went back to the hotel to get ready for our fancy dinner.
We ate at Galatoire’s on Bourbon Street – and I got probably the best steak I’ve ever had, hands down. No pictures, because I shoveled it into my face. I like my cow pretty much still mooing when I eat it, and it was perfectly cooked. Perfect. And then the coolest thing in the world happened – our waiter had on a blue dog pin that was dressed as a chef, and we commented often on how much we loved it. As he dropped the check, he said this is y’alls. The coolest things happen to us there.
We rounded out the night with a John Boutte concert at dba on Frenchmen, and then had a few drinks and headed back to the hotel.
The next morning we hit up St. Roch Market for some breakfast before heading home. B got the most amazing PB&J smoothie from Juice Nola, and I got the breakfast sandwich (add bacon! duh!) from Dirty Dishes. St Roch is like an open air market with a ton of different food, drink and locally sourced produce and products. It’s so fun, and I can’t wait to get back!
