I had intentions of showing up more to this space this week, but the week got away from me. I’ve been busier than normal at work, and for some reason, it just seemed like every time I got home from work this week, there was something we had to do. It was a long week, but the days went by really quick.
Last weekend, at this point, is a blur. Friday night, we had an impromptu block party. Our neighbors across the street had rented a huge water slide for their kid’s class parties, and invited Sheff over to play. There was pizza, a foam machine and lots of good conversation. I love love love this neighborhood, and it feels like we landed exactly where we needed to be.
Sheff had a baseball game where he got a game ball – the team was down four players, three of whom were our infielders and big bats. It wasn’t looking good, but the Yanks played up and got the W. Sheff even got himself an out by stepping on second. He loves baseball, and always has a really good time.
After that, I took a friend out for margaritas and queso for her birthday. The weather was gorgeous, so we spent the whole five hours we were there outside, just talking. It’s always so nice to get to go somewhere without the kids so we can be our non-mom selves. It’s good to get that time, and we were thankful for it.
Sunday the day started out stormy and rainy – and I was there for it. We haven’t had a good rainy day in awhile, so we got up, put on a record and made some breakfast. Eventually, the sun came back out, so we sat on the porch and listened to Jazz Fest, and Sheff got another invite to go back over to the slide that afternoon, so of course he went.
This week has been pretty good – I’ve been feeling super emotional lately, and can’t really pinpoint why. I’ve been all over the place mood-wise, and am trying to even myself out. Whether it’s with an old hobby that I picked back up (friendship bracelets! So fun you guys!), or taking it out on the exercise bike or treadmill or stealing Sheffield snuggles, it’s sort of working.
My neighbor threw a fun Cinco de Mayo party last night – filled with margaritas and tacos. It was family friendly, so Sheff came and played with the other kids. I made cowboy caviar and a cheesy black bean casserole, and both turned out so well. It was really fun.
We’ve got more baseball tomorrow, of course, and a birthday party tomorrow night. We’re also planning on hosting a neighborhood cookout next Friday as a pre-welcome to summer break. B is thinking of putting the pool up, so that’ll be a ton of fun for the kids. And will finally give me a good reason to give the house a good scrub-down. I hope everyone has a great weekend and happy Mom’s day to those who have the title in any capacity!
That slide looks super fun! Love how much your neighbors all do together. Besides the random hi at the mailbox or while walking the dogs, I rarely ever even see mine. Bonus points for not having to drive anywhere when you are done hanging out! I hope you have a wonderful mother’s day!
