For our Christmas with Gigi and Paw-paw, I wanted to do something that the whole family could join in on. And to maybe start a new tradition. Target had their gingerbread house kits on sale for $9, so I was like, why not? Even if this is a disaster, I only spent $9 on it, so….
I have never built a gingerbread house – or if I did when I was little, I don’t really remember it, but this kit came with pre-made sides and the roof and all of that good stuff, so we just needed to “cement” them together with the frosting. We waited until the next day for him to be able to put all the frosting and candy on it – He was definitely more interested in eating the frosting than keeping it on the house. And as soon as he saw Daddy eating the candy, he figured out that was pretty fun too.
All in all, it was a pretty fun time and kept him occupied a good 40 minutes, which is well worth the $9 in my book. He was also so thrilled to open his presents from Gigi and Pawpaw – I mean, look at him tearing into this thing. This may be the year that he understands unwrapping presents.
I’m so glad that he got into the gingerbread house – I’d really like to continue that as a tradition for us every year!
