I wanted to share some of the beautiful art that has been erected downtown in support of the BLM movement. I love working downtown right in the heart of the city – the statue that was torn down from Linn Park was three blocks from my work. All around the city, beauty came from hurt, pain and frustration. There are many many more than the ones I’m putting below, but these are some of my favorites.
Also one of my favorite things that the people of the city did was line the entrance to the Rotary Trail with flowers. There was still a florist there when Sheff and I stopped to look at it after work, and he told us that it was over $250,000 worth of flowers adorning the arch. Someone else asked him why they were doing it, and the florist said “to spread light in such a time of darkness.”
It was nice to share that with Sheffield, and while Birmingham, Alabama isn’t exactly known for it’s progressive viewpoints, it’s great to see the people and business of downtown banding together.
I dont miss my old job, but I do miss working downtown near you! It was always so nice to get out and walk a couple blocks down there to get out of the office. And seeing art like this only makes it better!
