month 2

My Sheffy baby,

This letter is only a few days late — we just got to have your 2 month appointment today, so I wanted to wait to write to make sure you were doing well.  And of course you are!  You’ve finally made it to 10 pounds, 10.1 to be exact, and you are 23.5 inches long!  You’re just going to be tall and skinny — and baby boy, there’s nothing wrong with that!

During these two months, you have started smiling at us purposely.  It is the single greatest thing I have ever experienced — when I come to get you out of your crib in the morning, and you give me that big gummy smile, it makes my heart melt.  You’ve also started getting pretty vocal — you coo with the best of them.  You absolutely love your bear mobile, and you’ll have conversations with them.  You also like the little wall “porcupine” looking things in our living room, and you’ll occasionally have a conversation with them too.

You’re starting to not hate tummy time — and you can actually get your head up pretty high!  It’s so fun to watch you learning all of these new things.

My favorite part is still having you sleep on my chest.  I love having you right there on me where you can hear my heartbeat.  You sleep with your mouth open sometimes, and it’s just the cutest thing ever.

Sheffield, I can’t put in a letter ever how much your daddy and I love you — or just how much you’re loved in general.  There are quite a few people who would do anything for you.  I hope you know that — and I hope you feel loved.  You are still the greatest and coolest thing I’ve ever done — keep being the smiley, music loving, car-seat sleeping little man you are.

Love,

yo momma

Sheffield and His Bath Time

August 14, 2015 · 4 Comments

We wanted Sheffield to love bath time — if anything for it to soothe him.  He’s been going through a bit of a rough patch with sleeping and being fussy.  We did learn though that it’s pretty normal to have a “witching hour” where it seems like nothing is able to soothe them.  Sheffy’s is between 4-6 in the afternoon, so keep that in mind if you want to come and visit us.  🙂

Anyway, we wanted to use the bath as maybe something that would keep him calm during his witching hour… so when his cord stump finally fell off (21 days later….), we were excited to put him in his big boy bath.

These are the first two pics from his first bath.  At first he was all, waaaahhhh, I hate this.  And then he was all, well, maybe this isn’t so bad.

And our second bath, we decided maybe we shouldn’t do it when he is so damn fussy to see if he actually likes it, and then we had this…all three of these where it looks like he actually likes it!  We were too happy over it.

they're all different, I swear.
they’re all different, I swear.

I can’t wait to see how he gets when he actually gets to play with toys in a big bath!

Sheffield – One Month

August 12, 2015 · 5 Comments

one month

Dear Pickle,

You are a whole month old! It’s so crazy to think that you’ve been on the outside for a whole thirty days.  I hope you’re enjoying it as much as we are!

We had your one month appointment yesterday, and you are finally seven pounds!  You hadn’t grown any length-wise, so you’re still hanging out in the fifth percentile — you are still so tiny!  I check to make sure you’re breathing about a million times a day, but I’ve kept you alive this long, so I feel pretty confident about keeping you alive for awhile.

I love having you fall asleep on my chest — you seem to like that more and more every day.  You are starting to hold your head up, and you seem so surprised every time you do it.  You make sweet baby noises sometimes, and it makes me can’t wait to hear you actually coo and babble.

We are so in love with you little Sheffield — every one told me that I wouldn’t know this kind of love until I held you in my arms, and they were so right.  Loving you is my absolute favorite thing in the world.  Keep being your sometimes fussy pants, bath-loving little self.

Love,

Yo momma.
