Sheffield’s Newborn Photos

August 4, 2015 · 5 Comments

You guys!!!  I can’t even express how in love I am with these pictures!  I was blown away when I got them in my inbox.  We used Lori from Appear Photography in Hoover.  She was so patient with our little guy – even though he was awake and fussy to start with — we eventually got him to calm down after a bottle, so she could take the asleep shots.  Here are a few of my faves!!

I can’t even express how happy I am that I got these done — I recommend them to all new moms.  I mean, my little man already doesn’t look like this!  Plus, I can’t imagine how hard it would be to do these on my own.  The amount of patience it takes…ummm, I don’t have.

I’m so glad I’ve got these to look back on, and can’t wait to get them printed and plastered all over the place.

Weekend Photos

July 27, 2015 · 6 Comments

You know how if you’re on Bloglovin’ they send you an update every weekend with any new followers or if you’ve lost followers?  I’ve lost quite a few of what few I did have — I’m assuming it’s due to all the baby stuff.

I wish I could say that I’m offended by it, but I’m not.  I don’t really feel the need to apologize for talking about my kid on here, so I’m not going to.  He’s pretty much the coolest thing to ever happen to me, and I’ve never been one to “care” about likes, followers, etc.  This blog is to document my life — I mean, look all the way back to 2008 — I didn’t even know how to put pictures in my posts, add links, etc.  I love all the real connections I’ve made with fellow bloggers, and those are the ones that matter.

So without further ado, I’m going to show you more pictures of my kid and our weekend.

weekend 725

It was pretty low-key — my dad and step-mom came in from Kansas to meet the little man.  They even offered to watch him for a few hours so B and I could sneak out and have our first “date” night.  We went to Good People for a beer, and then came home.  Shout out to Good People for giving us our first beer out on the house.  You people rock fo’ sho.  I’m also not quite sure if I’m ready to be away from him — I know that he’s fine, but sometimes I really like just staring at that face.

I’ve also given him his first nickname:  Pickle.  I’m not quite sure, but I called him that one day, and it seems to have stuck.  My sis sent him a onesie with a giant pickle on it.  I can’t wait to have him wear it (duh for a pic when I do happen to get have it on him).

Everything’s been going ok — so far.  He’s had a few bouts of being awake and fussy from about 2-6 in the morning, and I think we’ve gotten overly dependent on his Rock N Play that pretty much vibrates him to sleep — so we’ve been trying to “wean” him off of needing the vibrations for nap time.  So far it’s been working out terribly.  Only two weeks in, it still hurts me to see him get so upset.

Here’s to hoping that he finally gets some good sleep tonight!!

Baby Does Birmingham

July 24, 2015 · 2 Comments

** a lot of these posts coming up were hanging out in drafts, so they just needed a few tweaks and are easy to get on out tha door*

While I was pregnant, I really wanted to get a “bump pic” in all the iconic places in Birmingham.  The only one I didn’t get was at Regions Field in front of the Birmingham wall at the stadium.  Which we were going to do the weekend that Sheffield was born, but oh well right?

The first pic we got with him as a bump was at the light tunnels after a Barons game.

The second pic we got was at the Johns City Diner mural.  We were also on the way to a Barons game that night.  I will also remember that night, because I had a super rough night with work stuff, and I posted an Instagram that said as long as I have my B and my baby, all is well.  And I quit worrying about work — just like that.

The third Birmingham landmark we got him captured was at Sloss Furnaces.  I wish we would have gotten it at the actual Sloss sign, but again, oh well.

And our fourth & final location we got the bump at was Vulcan.  It had just stopped raining and was pretty enough to stop and get a picture.  We also got one with the city of Birmingham in the background.

Even though we didn’t get to finish the “project,” I’m still pretty happy with what we did get.  We do plan on staying around here for awhile, so I loved getting to introduce him to the city so early.

I hope you guys have a great weekend!  My dad is coming into town to meet his grandson, so I know we’re going to have a good one.

A Little Update

July 21, 2015 · 7 Comments

Ahhh, greetings from the land of newborn.  I’ve missed being able to come to this place and write down everything that is going on.  As you can imagine, it’s been sort of crazy, but good crazy.  Here are a few highlights:

sweet yawny face
sweet yawny face

// I can’t breastfeed.  My milk never came in.  I tried so diligently to pump, get him to latch, and none of it seemed to work.  Am I upset?  Yeah, of course I am.  But do I feel guilty for formula feeding him?  Not at all.  He is getting the nutrition that he needs, and that’s all that matters.  I’m glad our pediatrician isn’t a sole believer in breastfeeding, and she reassured us that there is nothing wrong with formula feeding.

// I will not turn this blog into a mommy blog, but there will be updates and pictures of my babe every so often.  It’s my blog, and my life, and he’s a giant part of it now.

// I had my first glass of wine last night in 40 weeks — I can honestly say that I still love it, although I don’t think I missed it as much as I thought I did.

// I have gotten really into Bad Ink and Last Man on Earth.  B and I got to watch Horrible Bosses 2, and it was pretty great.  Little man usually passes out as soon as he’s done with his bottle, and while I should be filling my mind with good and educational things, I find myself in front of the TV watching Netflix.  C’est la vie.

// Our washer and our lawn mower broke all in the 10 days since Sheffield’s been home.  We’ve gone all old school washing baby clothes in the sink.  B got a pretty sweet deal on one from Home Depot, so they’ll be delivered today.

// They are not joking when they say you need to line up help the first few weeks you’re at home.  My mom, step-dad, and sister all came down for the first week, and I have no idea where I would be if they hadn’t been here.  They had to put up with my mini-breakdowns ( I mean, hormones all over the place), and with me constantly worrying if I was doing ok.  B took the week off work this week as well, and it’s been awesome having him here.  He is so good with his baby y’all.  It warms my heart.

37 weeks

July 1, 2015 · 4 Comments

week 37

I’ve read a lot about 37 weeks — some websites say that 37 weeks is full term — some websites say that 39 is.  All I know is that I just need to be prepared for Sheffield to make his appearance any day now.  I could wake up one day completely pregnant, and then by the end of the day be holding my sweet little boy.

Do you know how crazy that is?

It’s insane.

He’s still moving around like a mad man — I thought he was supposed to be getting cramped in there, but it certainly doesn’t feel like he’s losing any room at all.  In fact, I think one of his favorite hobbies already is keeping me up at night.

The doctor last week said he seems to be moving down (yay!!), but still at 0% dilation and 0% effaced.  Is it bad that I actually really want to feel a contraction?  Oh, I know I’m going to regret saying that, but I’m really ready to get this thing going.

I haven’t really been all that hungry, but from the bump pictures, you can definitely tell that he is still growing and still poking out there even further.  I’m just so ready to see that little face and to hold him against my chest.

Hurry up little man – we are so ready to meet you!
