Hey look at it — I finally managed to come around and do my little announcement!!  And it’s not exactly perfect, but if you have a brat dog like me, then you know this is the best it’s going to get.  And we agreed that we’d much rather wait and spend the money on amazing newborn pictures.  Plus big sister Stell-dog begged to be a part of it.

From the very beginning, B and I had a hunch that we were getting a boy.  They tend to run in his family, so we knew the chances were high.

The appointment itself was pretty long — Baby J didn’t want to cooperate on a few of the anatomy scans, so we’ll have to get another one done around 26 weeks.  But clearly, they did get the money shot for the gender.  For this appointment, he was a healthy 19 weeks and two days — We’re at 21 weeks today.

We went to dinner at Bistro 218 that night (which was fantastic and I’ll have a post on soon) — ordered drinks and agreed to wait until we actually had them at the table before opening the envelope.  I wanted B to open and look first and then pass it to me.  It’s a boy was written on the gender scan picture — and I burst into tears.  It really was an emotional moment, and we spent the rest of the night after dinner on the phone with our families telling them the news.

Then immediately to Target to buy his first onesie – because what else do you do when you find out the gender?

We’ve started getting some things together for his nursery, and I think  we have settled on a name – which we’ll reveal at another date when we’re for sure we’ve got it locked down.  I absolutely can’t wait to bring this sweet baby boy into the world —  I hope he gets his dad’s nose!

16 Week Update

February 7, 2015 · 5 Comments

baby

Sorry for the lack of blog presence this week — my mind has been on nothing but work.  It wasn’t necessarily a hard week, just long and was filled with some after hours work.

ANYWAY, so I missed the bi-weekly update this week.  Baby J is at about 16 weeks now, and really starting to poke on out there!  Baby is about the size of an avocado and may be able to start hearing!  I’ve been listening to all types of music — my kid is going to be like me — going to know everything from Louis Armstrong and Springsteen  (whom he/she better love — gotta carry on that tradition) to New Kids on the Block to Amos Lee.  That’s one quality of mine that I love and want to pass on.

I still pretty much just feel overwhelmed that there’s a human growing in me.  In about four weeks, I’m going to be halfway through this, and I feel like I haven’t gotten anything done!  I know that I just need to be patient, and everything will turn out okay.  Baby will be loved, and that’s all that really matters.

We’ve started to pick out names that we like (find out the sex on February 24th!) and dislike, and our imagining what the nursery will look like.  Of course, we can’t actually start on the nursery until the basement is complete, but that should only be another month or so until it’s finished.  Month or two.  We’ve set a goal to be done by the beginning of May to get that all done, and we’re on track for it.

Work people think it’s a boy…what do you guys think??

Baby Update

January 8, 2015 · 2 Comments

I know, I know, I promised no baby updates, but whatever, I lied.  Baby J is 12 weeks, and we got to hear the heartbeat on Monday!  We are just a few days away from officially being in the second trimester!

week-12

How far along?  12 weeks (the size of a plum!)

Weight gain:  3 pounds, officially.

I’m feeling:  Nervous and overwhelmed.  I haven’t really let the excitement sink in, because there is so much that I don’t know and need to get done before the baby comes.

Maternity clothes:  I officially can’t get into my skinny jeans.  So there’s been a lot of leggings and a lot of dresses and sweaters.  I did just order a pair of maternity jeans, so we’ll see how that goes.

Sleep:  Still really sucks.  I’m still getting up about 2-3 times a night, and staying up at least thirty minutes to an hour every time I do get up.  It’s really frustrating — almost to the point of tears.  Of course, that could just be the hormones, too.

Miss anything?  Being able to sleep through the night….

Food cravings?  Not really, yet, but I think I had my first food aversion to chicken salad.  Which makes me sad, because I love the stuff!

Baby J has made it through Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and momma’s birthday.  Next up, Mardi Gras!
