Anni Number Four

July 2, 2013 · Leave a Comment

This past Thursday (June 27th!) was our four year anniversary.  To be honest, sometimes I’m thrilled that we’ve made it four years.  When they say that marriage is work, they sure aren’t kidding.

One of our favorite activities to do together is to travel and try new things; and we try to take trips, eat new food, try new drinks at whatever we’re doing.  We love to be around people; love sports, and love dogs.

We’re different people personality wise, but for some reason seem to fit together just fine.  Anyway, instead of fancying it up, which is just not us, we did one of our favorite things to do; Pizza and Beer, followed by a night cap.  Of course, we went to Slice and enjoyed our yummy local beers, then went across the street to Lou’s, where we tried a 150 year old, yes 150 year old, Grand Marnier.  It was the anniversary, so we splurged just a little bit.  Enjoy some pictures of our night!

We take impromptu photo shoots when we’re waiting for our food.  My iphone sucks at the turn-around camera thing or I seriously need to work on my skills.

I’m excited for my short week and for my dad coming into town.  Also can’t wait to spend the Fourth with him and some work friends . It’s going to be great!

Mexico Lindo – A Fanciful Birmingham Restaurant

June 26, 2013 · Leave a Comment

Nestled on Hollywood Boulevard, atop Highway 280 is a little strip mall with three locations.  There’s an ABC store (liquor), a sweet little brunch spot that we have yet to try, and then this Mexico Lindo.

We’d never been to this place or really ever on that side of town, but I’m really glad that I we did.  This little strip used to be pretty run down, but I’m really glad that they redid the whole place.

There once was a time when I didn’t enjoy guacamole, and I’m not really sure why.  This place’s guac was amazing.  B got the flautas, his new favorite, and I of course got the chicken tacos.  Their rice was delicious, and their salsa had just enough spice in it.  I really hate going to a Mexican restaurant and then having the most bland salsa in the world.  Because I seriously could live off chips and salsa, and eat for every meal.  And I like a little kick.

I can’t wait to go back!!

The Freakin Weekend

June 18, 2013 · Leave a Comment

I’m working to change the identity of this blog; I’ve already changed the name and URL already, and also have someone working on it.  As I close in on my 500th post with this blog, I figured it was time to do something about the way it looked.

I’m looking forward to seeing the new design, but I’m still going to continue to blog in anticipation of it.

This weekend B’s parents came up; we grilled out and went to another Barons game . For the first time this year while we were at a game, they lost.  We took the in-laws to Good People Brewery (right across the street from the stadium!), and then enjoyed nine innings of baseball in the most perfect weather imaginable.

My lovely centerpiece of mason jars, gardenias and hydrangeas.  All picked from our yard.

We really did have a great time.  And I’m pretty sure the in-laws enjoyed themselves as well.  I’ll have a special father’s day post for #tbt, but I hope all the daddies out there had a great day!

Another Saturday Night Barons Game

June 4, 2013 · Leave a Comment

This past weekend, we also went to another Barons game.  It has definitely become one of my favorite things to do in Birmingham especially with the new stadium.

Section 102 has become our favorite section; right on the third base line.  And I have yet to be scared by any sort of foul ball, so we’ll continue to sit there until someone gets knocked unconscious.

It was a pretty night, up until about the fourth inning when it decided to start lightening, so B and I took cover under the stands and found even better seats than we had to begin with.  They never actually called the game on account of the lightening  or the rain.  And especially after the rain, the place got much much cooler, and it was pretty perfect outside.

I love graffiti.  Especially funny ones.

Rain during the game plus a pretty hefty Barons lead tends to lead to impromptu photo shoots of funny faces.

It’s even better when B plays along…

Moe’s BBQ – Lakeview

March 20, 2013 · Leave a Comment

Now I know that this is not limited strictly to Lakeview District.  These guys seem to be popping up everywhere lately; Trussville, Galleria, and I know they’ve got one over in Tuscaloosa.  But seriously?  Their white BBQ sauce is second to none.
After work on Friday, I decided to meet up with B and some of his “old” work friends to celebrate the end of BBVA Compass as his employer, and to ring in the new employer so to speak.  So I met them down at Innisfree for a few celebratory drinks.  Yes, I skipped the work out and decided that maybe, just maybe, after the entirely sucky week I had, I deserved a vodka drink or two.  Innisfree is great up until about 11, where it gets young and crowded.
Yes, I’m 29 and I just said young and crowded.  Yet another sign that I am indeed getting older.  And I just said indeed.  I’m pretty sure the aging process never ends.
Anyway, after a couple drinks (by the way the weather was gorgeous, and we enjoyed most of our beverages out on the patio), we decided we were hungry.  And across the street, there’s Slice (which I’ve talked about numerous times on the ole blog here), and Moe’s.  There was lots of loud fun music coming from Moe’s so that’s where we settled in for a bit.
I decided on the BBQ sandwich with potato salad and mac n cheese.  You can tell I wasn’t completely in my right mind (am I ever?), because I really took a picture of a BBQ sandwich with the wrapper on.  Sometimes even I am in awe of my complete unawareness.

The live music was great.  And I was forced to watch Duke lose yet another game, forcing me to have to pay for lunch the next day.  One day I will stop betting on those guys; they never seem to pull through for me.
B decided on the wings, and apparently were the best wings he’s had in Bham.  Also their banana pudding and jalapeno cornbread.  Definitely a good idea.
These restaurants in Birmingham sure have a good thing going when the weather is fantastic.  Excited for some more happy fun weather this weekend.
