First Year Auburn

May 14, 2015 · 6 Comments

Today is what the kids call Throwback Thursday, right?  In the midst of scanning some pics that my dad sent me, I got to come across these gems from when my dad came to visit me at Auburn.

My first year at Auburn, I lived in what they called the Village.  Can I just say that these things are no longer in commission?  As in torn down to make room for RV Parking.  And I’m also pretty sure there was asbestos in the ceiling.  And I’m pretty sure each room housed a colony of cockroaches no matter how much you sprayed, killed, etc.  I’m pretty shocked that we never saw a mouse or rat or some mutant mouse-rat hybrid.

I did love it, though.  They were on-campus apartments, not dorms.  My roommate and I had our own bedrooms and we shared a bathroom and kitchen, as well as pretty big living room.  Well, big to the people who were shoved into a dorm.  It was co-ed, (we had boys living right beside us!!  As freshman, this was the coolest thing on earth), and we knew that our RA was high/drunk every day of the week, so we could pretty much do whatever we wanted.  We had our own laundry facilities, and we would play mud football in between two of the buildings when it would rain.  Alcohol?  Sure.  RA was passed out (once while in his car with his legs hanging out), so he didn’t care.  He also got in very public fights with his girlfriend, but again, he never said five words to any of us, so it was all good.  The Village was like our own little cult.

So it was really awesome to come across some pictures of that place I called home for a year.  Please excuse the décor, as I was a freshman, and it was 2002.

Good ole apartment 8.  Top floor.

OMG.  I was 18 in this picture.  And yes, that is a western themed blanket covering the couch.  And a fiesta mouse (please someone tell me you know where to find these, I want another one so bad!) on the bookshelf.

My roomie was an artist and fashioned our initials out of rope light.

And there’s my roomie!  We had pink lights surrounding our window and a martini light.

And where I slept for my entire freshman year, complete with Tommy Hilfiger bedding, and a construction paper masterpiece made my the roomie.  The room was complete with a lei, a caboodle and orange and blue string lights.  I was the coolest.

And for extra measure here is my ride from the time I was sixteen all the way through being twenty-five.  My little tadpole.  And yes, those are three pink butterflies.

So there’s where I lived for my first year at Auburn.  I had a blast and going through some of these brought back some memories that I had actually forgotten about.

#tbt: My Mom’s A Babe

July 17, 2014 · Leave a Comment

During the process of inheriting all the old pictures I’ve gotten, I got to come across some older pictures of my mom.  I don’t have to worry about getting killed for putting these up there, because I’m pretty sure she doesn’t read these anymore, so that’s a plus in my direction.
I always thought it was neat to see pictures of my parents pre-children, before we had time to drive them crazy, or right after children in those few small moments where having kids is cool.  Of course those are all assumptions, because I don’t have kids.  Maybe there aren’t those moments at all — or maybe some parents say all those moments are cool.
But hearing a kid cry in Target, because she can’t get a nail polish would suggest otherwise.  I always wonder if I was that big of a brat, but I know the answer.  Of course I was.

I know, right?  So beautiful.

#tbt: Halloween Costumes

June 12, 2014 · 1 Comment

I’m pretty sure there’s absolutely nothing more adorable than kids in their Halloween costumes.  While I’m sure there were many more of my sister and I in Halloween costumes, these are the only ones I have.
Also, it was back in that innocent stage where you weren’t trying to out-slut everyone at the bar.  Ahh, the good ole days…
Plus — further proof that my sister is, in fact, the devil.  Just kidding Juney.  Love you!!

I was also the cookie monster folks.  I don’t play around; he was the coolest.

#tbt: Braves Game 2006

May 29, 2014 · 2 Comments

Right before I graduated from college, I had some really shitty medical stuff happen.  I haven’t talked much about it on the blog, because, well besides having to wear a medical alert bracelet, it doesn’t hinder my life in any way.
But after college, I moved home to Atlanta for a few months while I was re-learning to walk and basically deciding what the heck I wanted to do with my life.
One of my big advantages to this, was that my best friend at the time had also moved back home for the same purpose of trying to figure out what the hell to do next.
So of course in the summer time, in Atlanta, there is nothing better to do than hit up a Braves game.  I’ve expressed my love for this team before on the blog, and it’s even more fun when you get to go with people you adore.
One of our old co-workers from Ruby Tuesday had decided to come up that weekend, so he joined us at the game.  He was a little crazy, and his main objective was to get on the big screen.  My main objective?  To pretend like I didn’t know the kid and to stay far far away from him, just in case he did happen to make his dream a reality.

It was such a fun time!  It was my first Braves game where I could actually drink!  It was a great time, and I miss these two, but as I’m sure I’ve said before, people enter and exit your life for a reason, so instead of dwelling on it, just let it be.

#tbt: Remember When

May 22, 2014 · 1 Comment

Do you remember when life was so easy?
Your parents did everything for you.  You were not responsible for how anyone felt; there was no pressure on you to do anything.
Your only obligations were to go to school and do well and eat what was placed in front of you.
I miss those days.
Being able to not have to get up, be responsible for anyone or be held accountable for anything you did.  Hey, you were just a kid, and who is going to blame a kid?
I really miss those days.
