Weekend Date

August 21, 2012 · Leave a Comment

After our tragic yard sale fail, we decided we needed to do something to perk ourselves up.
We thought some more sleep would do the trick; it was thunderstorming and still dark, so it made perfect sense.
Except when we woke up, the sun was brightly shining, and well, in so many words, pissed us off.  We are trying so hard to put this house together so we can get it on the market; get it on the websites, and finally move the junk out of our basement.
But all to no avail.  We are still stuck with all the crap in the  basement with no open weekend in sight to get rid of it.
We needed to do something.
B suggested a dinner out.  So that’s what we did.
We hit Village Tavern at the Summit on 280 to escape it all.
Colorado chips = yumminess.

They have the best shrimp n grits known to man.  They have really yummy cheese grits with a ton of bacon and mushrooms.  Ugh, heaven.  B got a boring pizza so no pictures of his.
With our bellies full and still being somewhat tired from waking up so early, and moving all the furniture out, and then back in, we decided to go to bed.
And woke up to this…
sweet stell-dog.
and then later on rewarded ourselves with this…
creamsicle cocktail.
All in all, we are closer to putting the house on the market.  Maybe sometime this week.  🙂

Rewind: Previous Life

August 19, 2012 · Leave a Comment

I was reading through an old blog of mine; one I kept through  my college years, and actually stumbled across a semi-decent post.
Nothing about drunk keg stands or how much I don’t see myself with a certain boy, but actually something that made sense to me reading it, some four years later…

Life Comes at You Fast

I’ve always wanted to be one of those people that wrote inspiring, introspective things on my blog, but I’ve since realized that I could never do that.  While spending most of my time at 280, reading other people’s blogs, and am like, I can never do that.  I couldn’t devote an entire entry about going green.  To be honest, I’m not all that aware of it.  I don’t drive a Hummer; that’s about as green as I get.    I don’t eat all organic food, actually far from it.  Give me my pizza with grease all over it, and some french fries.  I use plastic bags at Target or Publix, because they’re free.  I understand the concept of buying the canvas ones; they did this in Denmark when I lived there, about 14 years ago.  In Denmark, you didn’t have an option; you didn’t have canvas bags, you were carrying your own groceries out to the car, or in our case, to the apartment.
I could never sit in here and write about politics.  I don’t think I agree with anyone running.  I agree with bits and pieces from everyone, so why can’t all three run the country?  I don’t feel the need to get in heated debates about my religion or what I believe or how I live.  I don’t feel the need to constantly have to defend myself.  You can believe in what you want, and I’ll believe in what I want, and as long as you don’t get violent or crazy with me, I’m cool.
I semi-pay attention to the news.  I’ll read some MSNBC, or foxnews.com occasionally, but I have never subscribed to a newspaper or news magazine.  I don’t really think of myself as wordly, but I’m definitely not sheltered.  I’ll skim the news stories, but then I’ll eventually go to the stories that interest me the most, the entertainment part.  Or the part where they recap Grey’s or American Idol, because these are the things that I want to read about.
And although I think I’m losing a bit of my conservative views, I definitely have not become a full-blown liberal.
Anyway, I did get all of that out of reading other people’s blogs.  People most definitely have some interesting things to say, and they do only write about what’s important to them; programming, or some TV show, or their jobs, their friends, their marriage.
And going through my past blogs, you can definitely tell I’m not one for the serious.  I don’t like being serious, unless it’s needed.  I try to always make the mood light, which is proving hard.  Oh well, I can always try, I guess.
I think the most important thing I’ve learned in awhile, ok, well the two most important things:
1.  Stop caring what people think about you.  And I’m not a quote person, but here goes, “the people who matter don’t mind, the people who mind don’t matter,” or something along those lines.
2.  Laugh at yourself.
I must remember the last two things I said.  They ring true now more than ever.

Saturday Blues

August 18, 2012 · Leave a Comment

we woke up with a 10% chance of rain this morning.
somehow in the course of ten minutes, it turned into 40% chance of rain.  while it was raining.
you’re probably like, well, who cares?  you live in Alabama, doesn’t it rain all the time?
well yes.  but it shouldn’t while we’re trying to put on a yard sale.  we woke up at 5 am to get everything outside.  the sale included a sofa, a nice suede chair, tables, clothes, etc.  so as soon as it started raining, we had to scramble to cover all the heavy stuff.
we had one shopper that came early and bought $25 worth of stuff.
then we had to pack it up for the day.
this is what we were faced with this morning.  so we moved everything back into the basement.  all the while, i’m complaining about how heavy everything is and how much God hates me.
so we’ll try again some other weekend.
stupid rain.

Nick’s in the Sticks – Tuscaloosa

August 18, 2012 · Leave a Comment

it’s so close to football season.  and i hate saying anything good about the university of alabama, but i will.
this place is pretty good.
we went there over the winter, because B just had to have his iPhone and we had to travel forty-five minutes for it.  and once upon a time, an awesome friend of mine (although she is a crimson tide fan), told me about this restaurant that was hidden from the main drag, and seriously out “in the sticks.”  and she also told me that this “nicademus” drink will pretty much knock you on your butt.
and it did.
we had two.  then they stop you.
p.s.  poor photography quality is apparently what i’m all about.
this sign is not facing the street.  it is facing the door on the inside of their patio.

nicademus…is there alcohol in it?  sure doesn’t look like it.

dolla dolla bills on the ceiling y’all…

homemade salad dressings are the shizz.

onion rings are my fave.

inside bar.  you can’t really see how packed out it was, but it was.  and on top of that it was a super small place.

baked tater.

you can’t really see the filet due to my awesome iPhone photography, but it’s there.  with a piece of bacon wrapped around it.

and please feel free to tell me if you’ve ever seen natty light in a bottle before.  we hadn’t.
all in all, you pretty much get what you pay for.  there really wasn’t a wait when we went there.  school was out, and it was pretty late on a week night.  i’ve heard the wait can get pretty long, and that sometimes the staff isn’t so friendly.  i will tell you that they can definitely tell when you’ve never been there.  but all in all, it was a pretty good experience.
even if it wasn’t, i would really remember it.
thanks nicademus.
oh, and having auburn stuff on the back of your car is probably a bad idea too…

My Favorite Picture

August 17, 2012 · 1 Comment

b and i have been together for a total of five and a half years.  now we knew each other while we were in college; we worked together; we had accounting together.
he actually came to my house one time to study.  so he says.  for some reason, i really don’t remember this.  i have a picture of him looking super hot from a party we both went to.
i went to a party at his house and played drinking games with him and other ruby tuesday workers until the wee hours of the night.
i do have pictures of me and him together from this time in my life.
but this one…this one is my absolute favorite.
we both look so young in this picture.  my hair is longer and blonde.  my dress is super cute, and we both look so happy.
this is on the rooftop bar in birmingham about 2 years ago.
amazing what two years can do to your appearance.
ugh, i feel old.
