For the Super Bowl, I was craving soft pretzels. One of my favorite things in the world is Auntie Anne’s pretzels with cheese sauce – so I wanted to replicate those little bites that they make. I’m still pretty leery of baking with yeast, so I tried to find something that would allow me to make the pretzels without the yeast. Enter pizza dough pretzel bites!! So easy, so delicious.
WHAT YOU NEED:
1 tube pre-made pizza dough (or bag of pizza dough, I got mine from Publix)
1/4 cup baking soda
1 egg, beaten.
WHAT YOU DO
Preheat oven to 415 degrees.
Roll out pizza dough on top of cutting board.
Cut dough into 2″ by 2″ squares and roll into balls.
Bring 2 quarts of water to a medium bowl, then carefully add baking soda and stir.
Add dough balls and cook for about 2-4 minutes until they puff up.
Remove dough balls with a slotted spoon and place on a cookie sheet covered with parchment paper.
Brush a good amount of the egg onto each dough ball and top with salt.
Bake for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown.
Sprinkle with more salt and allow to cool.
We made some beer cheese dip to go with them, and it was so good! You can also do any sort of Rotel or honey mustard dip, and it’d be just as delicious!
