Well hey there, blog. It’s been a minute. Definitely before all of this COVID-19 garbage began. I’m not really sure if it was on purpose ( I think some of it was, because I wasn’t really sure what to write about), but I think I feel ok coming back and trying to find that creativity again.
I won’t sugarcoat anything – this whole thing sucks. Working from home with a four year old is not my ideal way to live. I don’t have one of those flex-hour jobs that all the cool kids seem to have – I am required to normally be at my computer from 7-4 and maybe later. And while I’m thankful that I am still employed (with an “essential” job nonetheless), it doesn’t make what I’m feeling any less.
Sheffield has been doing good – he misses his friends like all of us, but is doing his school work, and even reading a few sentences and words. He’s doing great with his math, and loves to draw (moms, if you don’t know about art hub for kids on YouTube, definitely check it out – it keeps Sheff busy for at least 30-40 minutes, and check out his giraffe!)
I’ve been sucking down podcasts – usually in my 45 minutes to an hour that I get in the morning while S gets some pad time. If you’re looking check out:
- Dating Game Killer
- Monster: DC Sniper
- Chasing Cosby
- American Jihadi
- Detective Trapp
B and I made a list of which movies we’ve never seen and are powering our way through it. It ranges from Star Wars to Animal House to Gone with the Wind.
We had a date night with steaks and potatoes. It was nice to do my hair and wear something other than pajamas.
There’s been a ton of outside time, some baking (it took me two and a half weeks to find flour, and I was legit out), some crying, some scrapbooking, some reading. But mainly just a lot of time together. Which can take a toll – but we’re doing the best we can, as I imagine everyone else is.
When I was sick in the hospital many many moons ago (before B and I were even a thing), he wrote in a card that famous saying “this too shall pass,” and I think about that every day. We will all get through this – keep sticking together and keeping the faith. I’ll try to log back in here every so often. Take care of each other, and for god sakes, stay home.
