On Saturday morning, I told B that I’d be home later than normal from Orangetheory, because I had a surprise for him! Little did he know that I had finally found a King Cake worthy of New Orleans! In case you’re new to these parts, the hubs and I have a massive love affair with New Orleans, and it kills us most of the time that we can’t live down there. We are always trying to find good New Orleans dupes in Birmingham – and we’ve done an OK job so far. But then our favorite doughnut place, Hero Doughnuts put on their Instagram that they were taking orders for their King Cake! I hopped all over that. They even had a King Cake doughnut – I got one for boogs and B, and that baby inhaled that thing. Bham peeps – if you’re a NOLA transplant or just love King Cake, you have to have this one. HAVE TO.
Saturday, I also met up with my new mom friend and her son!! I’m not going to lie – I was super nervous, and it definitely felt like a first date. As soon as we started talking though, all of that faded. We have a ton in common, the least of all being that our kids are in the same daycare. She drinks and swears and loves NOLA! Not that those are the only qualities I look for in a friend, buuttttt it helps. We met up at Homewood Park and let the boys run out some energy. We got Chick-Fil-A, and luckily the firehouse next door was having their truck hoses and ladders tested, so they were out for us look at. The firemen were completely generous in letting us roam around their station, even showing the boys their gas mask. It was so cool! It was also close to 70 degrees on Saturday, so we spent almost all day outside. B was in Auburn watching them beat the snot out of UGA in basketball, so it was a fun mommy/son day.
Sunday wasn’t as eventful. We spent the morning outside bouncing in the trampoline and blowing bubbles. We just sort of slugged around until nap time. After naps, we headed down to Pelham to go to Beer Hog – a craft beer place with a huge patio. Boogs had a ton of fun watching the puppies and “playing” cornhole. Basically just him cheating and throwing all of his missed bags into the hole.
I’m so glad that I took that step out of my comfort zone – I now have a new mom friend, and guys, those are important. As Nadine can say – mom-island can get lonely sometimes. Also, go and get that King Cake – I’m pretty sure I’m going to have another one ordered before it’s all said and done!
