Friday night after a long long week of work, I took a Zzzquil at 8pm and passed the heck out. I didn’t allow myself to look at work or do anything work related at all. I slept the whole night through, which is more than I can say for what happened the four previous nights before that.
Saturday, we got up and went to Trader Joe’s to stock up on freezer meals for the week (seriously, these things are cheap and mostly low cal), then we went to New York Butcher Shoppe in Cahaba Heights. They have a design your own sandwich, and you can get it hot or cold. I got the Italian cold, and they stacked this thing a mile high with meat. So much so that B and I couldn’t finish our sandwiches. They also have all sorts of prepared meats, wines, cake and whatever else you could need.
After naps, we played outside until it was time to get ready for date night. Every year, for March Madness B and I bet two dinners. Whoever loses has to buy the winner two meals – but this year, I decided that I wanted one good one meal instead of two so-so ones. We decided on Gianmarco’s over in Homewood, and it was delicious! We split a bottle of wine, got the fried crab claws for an appetizer, and I had to veal chop with polenta and asparagus. It was amazing.
After dinner, we headed downtown to get some cocktails at The Atomic Lounge – which was voted one of America’s Top Ten Bars. It was definitely crowded, but by some crazy luck, we got a tiny table for two that was completely secluded from the rest of the bar. They have a huge assortment of craft cocktails (including the Legendary Sex Panther – a rye drink where you also get a sex panther tattoo), beer and wine. If you’re feeling extra awesome, you can request to wear one of their costumes for the duration of your stay at the bar. One day I will do this.
We ended date night by driving around Vestavia Hills blasting 90’s country music and singing really really loud.
On Sunday we got up and watched some TV in bed. It was in the 30’s, and there was no place we’d rather be than watching Dora in bed. B went to the grocery store to stock up on stuff for our cook-out! Robyn and her crew came over around 11, and we enjoyed beers, chips and dip, and hamburgers and hot dogs. The boys actually got to sit and play with each other, and we’re pretty sure they had a good time! The weather ended up being perfect for sitting out on the porch and eating.
I hope you guys had a great weekend – we have no plans for next weekend, so hoping to get a ton of spring cleaning and purging done!
