Whew – this weekend took it out of me for sure! It was a busy one, but also a really fun one.
Friday night, I met up with a good friend for Mexican and margaritas. We haven’t had a minute to actually catch up in awhile, so it was really nice. I needed that night, too- I had been on an emotional roller coaster most of last week due to a variety of reasons. But there’s not a whole lot that margaritas and cheese dip can’t fix.
Saturday we got up fairly early to head down to Auburn for Sheff’s (and my sister’s!) first Auburn game. We met Bennett’s parents for some tailgating – we had delicious dips and B’s mom brought some Chick-Fil-A nuggets! After we’d eaten, we hitched a Tiger Transit ride into campus. We immediately hit up the bookstore for face tattoos, shakers and souvenirs for Sheff. By that time it was time to head into the stadium. I did not want Sheff to miss all the pre-game festivities – mostly the Eagle flight. And man, was it a good Eagle flight. It was so close to our seats – I have never seen her fly so close. It was amazing! The game…, well, wasn’t so amazing. We were playing Georgia State and were favored by 27 points. We had to squeak out the win in the end. And when I say squeaked – we scored a touchdown with about two minutes left in the whole game to take the lead.
And then they went on to score another touchdown! Jordan-Hare was rocking!! I’m so glad he got to feel that excitement to watch your team make a fourth-quarter comeback. Clearly, we had to head to Toomer’s afterward to roll some trees and celebrate. Sheffield loved it! It made my mama heart so happy to get to share this with him. On the way out, we even passed Aubie in a golf cart heading to Toomer’s! B lifted him up to get a high five, and Aubie noticed his first AU game button and gave him a thumbs up. It absolutely made Sheff light up!! He had been keeping his eye on Aubie throughout the game and really wanted to meet him – so to get to see him as we were walking back to the car – just made his whole day.
We didn’t get home until about 10, so it was straight to bed for everyone when we got home.
Sunday, we alllll slept in – Sheffield even slept in to about 730, which is unheard of for him. We honestly just slugged around the whole morning. Watching TV, trying on new Halloween costumes – was pretty great. Sheff had a baseball game that afternoon, and it was blazing hot!
The coaches took a vested interest in Sheff and his playing of first base – and he went 3-for-3 again at the bat, and didn’t need the tee. So very proud of this kid. Bennett got a projector for outside, so we got it set up to watch the Packers game, made some nachos and watched the Packers win with 30 seconds left in the game.
I’m now taking applications for new football teams that don’t give me heart attacks.
It was such a good, albeit exhausting, weekend. Hoping for a much quieter weekend this go round!
I have a football team you can cheer for *wink wink*. Haha. Love that Sheff had such a great first game experience!!! And stop with that bottom baseball picture. When did he turn 15? Hopefully those games will start cooling down some for the parents. It’s one of the reasons I am glad Zoe’s sport choices are indoors LOL.
